Our mission at Madison Cowan Studio is to provide equitable access to the arts for individuals with physical and cognitive exceptionalities - including those living with Traumatic Brain Injuries, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and learning differences.
We offer private commissions, art workshops, and the Plein Air Club, alongside instruction in drawing, oil painting, printmaking, and other creative resources - building community, fostering creativity, and making art accessible to all.

Oil Painting for Beginners

Work from a carefully curated still lifes and beyond, while learning composition and traditional oil painting techniques on canvas. In this small, group-style class, you’ll explore intuitive painting, deepen your creative voice, and engage in thoughtful, connective conversations around your work. For ages 18+ and no experience needed!

Evening Session: The Printmaker's Workshop

Celebrate love and friendship in this Valentine/Friendship Printmaking Workshop! Create personalized cards, prints, and paper goods using lino block and relief printing techniques. Step-by-step guidance makes this workshop perfect for beginners—bring your creativity and leave with unique, handmade pieces to share with friends, loved ones, or keep for yourself.
Ages 18+. Limited to 5 participants.
The Plein Air Club is a collective of Bakersfield artists and art lovers, who gather monthly in a location specific to Kern County.
Creating together outside, exploring different mediums, and building community.
Membership is Free. Community is priceless.
